About the event
Plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape. It’s a French phrase that means, simply, “in the open air.” Painting outside isn’t just about enjoying the sun and the breeze, although that’s certainly a big part of the fun. It’s also a great way to paint from direct observation, whether that means a landscape, a cityscape, or even something like a portrait.
This workshop will focus on the natural beauty along The Trout River in Montgomery Vermont with impressionist artist Dennis Lucas.
$75 per person. All supplies, canvas, paint, brushes will be included. But if you have your own brushes please bring them if you would like. Class size is limited to 12. Rain Date Oct.1
An impressionist painter whose work focuses on the ever-changing light and its effects on color in nature, Dennis enjoys the diverse light and temperature of the four seasons.
Lucas is a student of the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and began his career at the Cape School of Art in Provincetown. The school, inspired by the French Impressionists began over one hundred years ago on the sunny shores of Cape Cod. Dennis immediately adapted to this style of painting while living and working there.
Dennis paints and exhibits throughout New England and has conducted many classes and workshops en plein-air and in the classroom.
A past Artist-In-Residence at the historic Whistler House Museum of Art in Lowell, MA., Lucas’ work is in many public and private collections.
